WHO WAS THE BEST GUITARIST OF ALL TIME ?

This blog is going to be a learning tool for anyone who wants to use it. It’s going to cover guitar along with other topics, pentatonic & major scales, skip scales chords, passing chords, etc. Please add any comments, this is what this is all about.
But FIRST, for all the guitar players and musicians. Who was the best guitarist who ever lived? I was going to write Wes Montgomery and leave it at that but there are & were so many great guitarist.
Let’s start with “Rock”, which we are all experts in. It seems the ones that have left us the most have left us the earliest, Jimi, Duane, SRV, Gary Moore but today who’s playing the best most creative stuff? My first choice is Jeff Beck. Play the guitar with your left hand and with your right, hold the whammy bar, volume with the palm of hand and play with your thumb. You cannot be serious. If anyone can do that, I’ll be at your next gig. Others have to be Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malsteen, Larry Carlton & Lee Ritenour.
OK, blues guitarist, what a cross over of rock/blues. Straight blues, Robert Johnson, B.B. King, all of the Kings for that matter. Elmore James, T-Bone Walker, the guy who gave Jimi a lot of ideas. Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy. The rock/blues guys are endless starting with Clapton, Jimmy Page, Duane Allman and Jeff Beck again.
Country, Chet Atkins is the man, Steve Morse can cross over, Albert Lee burns it up and Ry Cooder.
Slide, Duane Allman died at 24 in 1971 and his band still plays on, simply the best, Elmore James was one of the first, Muddy Waters, Bonnie Raitt holds her own, Lowell George was a great writer and slide player dead at 34.
I know I’ve left out a lot of genres but this is just the start. What are your thoughts.
If you don’t listen to Larry Carlton, start right NOW. Lee Ritenour, Steve Luthier, Mike Stern, Derek Trucks, Eric Johnson.
Jazz again, Wes Montgomery, Django Reinhart, Joe Pass, Charlie Christian, George Benson, John McLauglin, Pat Metheny and Larry Coryell all have left their mark.
Like I said at the start Wes IS my man. Played only with his thumb, reinvented octave and chord solo playing. The most melodic guitarist of all time.

Who’s yours?
Thx,
Dennis
